Back in July our Relief Society put on a wonderful activity where we learned more about the heritage of women in the R.S. and some of the activities that made their lives rich.
Of course our activities committee did a perfect job planning and decorating!
We had a great turn out!
We had some amazing teachers helping us learn different skills like cooking with herbs, making jams, decorating cookies and cakes, and making yummy homemade bread.
We had so much fun...
...and as always loved being together as sisters.
Here are some of the recipes from the activity:
Basic Freezer Jam (using ULTRA GEL): yield about 2 1/2 pts
3 3/4 cups fruit puree (strawberry, apricot, cherry, peach, plum, etc)
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/2 cup ULTRA GEL (available at some groceries stores, the bosch store, or online)
Prepare fruit in blender, food processor, or by crushing. Add sugar and lemon juice. Gradually add ULTRA GEL, stirring constantly. Let stand 5-10 min to thicken. Stir until smooth. If a thicker consistency is desired, add more ULTRA GEL on tablesppon at a time. Package, seal, label and freeze for 6-12 months.
Royal Frosting (the smooth finish look cookie frosting):
6 oz (3/4) warm water
5 Tbsp meringue powder
1 Tbsp cream of tartar
2.25 lbs of powdered sugar
First whisk warm water with meringue powder. Then add cream of tartar and all of the powdered sugar. Mix on lowest speed for 10 minutes (set your timer, it really matters). After the 10 minutes, it should look fluffy, and you can add water accordingly to meet ten second rule.*
*After ten seconds of dripping the frosting over the bowl it should blend back into the rest of the mix. You can adjust it to the desired consistancy by adding more water slowly.
I obviously didn't get all the recipes up here so teachers if you still have them send me an email and I'll put em up!
